Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under former President Donald Trump, says she will decide over the holidays whether to run in the 2024 presidential election.

At a Tuesday forum at Clemson University, she said, “I have said I’ve never lost a race. I’m not going to start now. If we decide to get into it, we’ll put 1,000 percent in and we’ll finish it.”  Haley now lives in Kiawah Island.

S.C. expands birth control access. South Carolina expanded its birth control access by allowing pharmacists to dispense contraceptives. Anyone not on birth control must get an initial check-up and prescription, but can bypass the doctor’s office afterward.

Same-sex marriage bill passes U.S. Senate. The Senate passed a landmark legislation Tuesday with a bipartisan 61-36 vote for The Respect for Marriage Act. The bill would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, which denied federal benefits to same-sex couples, but allow religious organizations to not be required to provide any goods or services for the celebration of any marriage.

Local guides offer alternative tours for Charleston. New tour companies in the city are offering residents and visitors alike a different side of Charleston with alternative tours that acknowledge Charleston’s role in the slave trade, understand Gullah Geechee culture, learn about the LGBTQ community’s past and connect with the environment.

New church aims to bring change in North Charleston neighborhood. The old Remount Baptist Church is undergoing renovation, and a new name change, as part of an ongoing multimillion-dollar restoration. Church leaders want to see a similar restoration throughout the neighborhood off of Remount Road.

S.C. Aquarium to expand waterfront learning. The South Carolina Aquarium received a $2 million donation from Boeing to help expand its learning opportunities with a Boeing Learning Lab. Officials say the lab will provide free STEM education for thousands of students.

Lawsuit targets surveillance of S.C. drivers. The S.C. Public Interest Foundation and a Greenville resident are suing state law enforcement over the use of an “expansive surveillance network” of cameras. According to the lawsuit, law enforcement has no oversight on how to use the information gathered.
